I was born and raised in Durban, South Africa. With the Indian Ocean just around the corner, I spent all my free time surfing and skateboarding. At the age of 18 I travelled to Oxfordshire in the UK for an internship for a year, which turned into 12 years. I worked in various restaurants and hotels, starting as a kitchen porter and working my way up to executive chef.
An opportunity to work in the French Alps presented itself, which led me to work 10 consecutive winter seasons as a private chef in luxurious chalets in the French and Swiss Alps. While working in France I met my future wife, Natalie. We spent many years travelling the world (in between work!) and got married in 2015 and had our son James in 2020.
After many happy years working winters in France and summers in Spain, my wife and I decided we wanted to settle down in one place - at the same time the opportunity arose to reform and run Coto! After the purchase of the restaurant in autumn 2018, everything finally came together and Coto opened its doors in August 2022.
